Group 2 - Today is our last session looking at 'our community'.   Ask a grown-up to help you read through the PowerPoint below; looking at ways that we can help our school community and discuss your ideas with them.

Our School PowerPoint

As a  school we are going to be creating a new wildlife area.  Your task today is to design what the wildlife area might look like.  Think about how you will make it feel calm and relaxing for everyone to enjoy.  Will there be any features such as a water feature or seating area? How might you attract wildlife into the area?  You can be as creative as you like.   When you have finished, it would be great to see your designs.  You never know, you may find some of your ideas are chosen when the wildlife area is created for real!

Story

Today's story is called "You're called what?!" by Kes Gray. This week we had Safer Internet day. We were thinking about information on the internet and that sometimes we have to check to make sure something is true. It is really important that we don't just believe everything. In this story there are some wonderful, and slightly crazy, named creatures. Can you guess which ones are true?

Well done for all your hard work this term.  You now deserve a well earned break! Our new topics will start on Monday 22nd February 2021.

Home grown ups please let the children complete this by themselves. You can read the questions for them and they can use resources to help them – part whole models, tens frames, pasta, lego cubes, number lines – but they need to record their own ideas.

Once they have completed the assessment please photograph each page and email it to RB@westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk so that we can see how they got on.

Group 1 - Today, you are going to be doing some observational drawings/painting.  This means that you have to look very carefully at the object in front of you and draw what you see as realistically and as true to life as possible.  You may want to paint your picture once you have drawn it or you may choose to use colouring pencils or pens.  However you decide to complete your picture, try to use the correct colours for the object you are studying.

Group 2 - On Friday, we are going to be cooking a delicious dish from one of the four countries: England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.   Today, we would like you to look through each of the recipes and decide which one you would like to make.  Once you have made your decision, we would like you to write a list of the ingredients you will need.  You might need to check your kitchen cupboards to see whether you have any of the ingredients already.  If you are unable to make one of the recipes above then don’t worry – perhaps you could practice your mixing, rolling, chopping, slicing and cutting skills using playdough or maybe even out in the garden using mud and water to make mud pies.

Monday 1st February

Good morning Bears!  We hope you have had a lovely weekend.

This week is Children's Mental Health week. It is a really tricky time for us all at the moment; home learning, missing school friends and having to stay at home as much as we can.  It is easy to start feeling a bit fed up and so it is important to find ways to take care of ourselves. One really brilliant way is to move our bodies. This helps us to feel happier!

Group 1 - In today's lesson you will be finding out about the role of a firefighter. You will then be drawing and labelling a picture of a fire engine.  Use your phonics to help you to write your labels and if you don't know how to write the whole word then just try writing the initial sound of each word.

Group 1 - Today you will need to scroll down to watch week 3, session 1

Group 1 Video - Alive in 5, session 1

For today's activity you will need to gather a selection of objects for your child to 'weigh' in their hands.  Preferably, this will include some heavier items and some lighter items.  You could also try to include some larger but lighter items like an empty cereal box and some smaller but heavier items like a stone.  Before they compare two objects, ask them to predict which they think will be heavier and why.  Encourage your child to use the language: heavy, light, heavier than and lighter than.  They do not need to record anything but a photograph of them weighing the different objects would be great!

Group 2 - Watch the 'Add by counting on' video then complete the activity below.   Please note, there is no worksheet for today's lesson but there is a practical activity for you to complete.

Good morning everyone!

We have made it through another week of remote learning!  Whether you have been working from home or in school, we can see that you have been working hard and giving all of your activities a go, well done.   If you haven't already been in contact via email this week, please could you do so today, just to let us know that you are ok and able to access the work set.   It would be lovely to see a picture of your best piece of work and if you are happy for us to do so, we could share it on the class blog later today.

Good morning!

Thank you to all the home grown ups that have very kindly emailed photos of the wonderful learning that is going on.  We know this is tough for all of you and there have been some grumps and tears but you are all doing a fantastic job. Some days will be easier than others.

Remember if you haven't dropped us an email with a selection of your learning please try to do so today or tomorrow. We don't need to see all of your work, just the best bits!

Groups 1 and 2 will both complete this activity.  You will need to use the login details for the real PE, which you should all have received in a letter.  If you can't find your login details, don't hesitate to contact us and we will be able to send them to you again.  Use the instructions below to help you login to the correct activity.

I spy with my little eye, something that is blue.

Group 2 - Our new topic is called 'Where is the UK?' and over the next few weeks we will be taking a closer look at the United Kingdom and the different places that make up the UK.   Ask a grown up to read the information on the Powerpoint  to you, then complete the activity below.

Today you are going to use a map to help you locate England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  You will also need to see if you can spot the capital cities.  These are marked on the map with either a black or white star.  You may need to zoom in to see these.

Now have a go at the activity below. You will need equipment for throwing and rolling games such as skittles, beanbags (a pair of rolled up socks would work just as well) and buckets (you could also use something like a saucepan or washing up bowl if you don't have a bucket).

Parents: Encourage the children to notice when they knock over zero skittles or get zero socks in the bowl etc. How could they record their score? How many have they knocked over? How many are left standing? Who has scored more/less? How do you know? Encourage the children to reply in full sentences.

As a starting point you could take on the role of one of the emergency services. Watch this episode of Topsy and Tim for one idea. You could make some emergency vehicles out of Lego or design and make some small puppets of firefighters or paramedics etc. to help you tell your story.

Group 2 - This afternoon you are going to be thinking about the different seasons of the year and how humans adapt to them.   If the Powerpoint doesn't pop open automatically, please check for a pop up at the bottom of your screen (you will be able to open it from here).

Remember to log on to Reading Eggs, Maths Seeds and Oxford Owl. There are lots of fun activities to complete, as well as some fabulous books and stories to read.
