The children have also been working hard in their new Read, Write, Inc groups continuing to learn the Set 1 sounds, whilst during maths Mrs Budge and Mrs Russam dropped in to see learning in action and were impressed with the children's engagement and how they were using their 'five frames' to match different scenarios.

Many thanks as ever to all our parents and grandparents who helped out.
  • Friday 10 June 2022 10th June 2022 We had a wonderful time on Friday afternoon, welcoming grandparents into class and showing them around. We do hope they enjoyed the art exhibition and are now enjoying looking at a self portrait of your little darling! Our artwork for Term 6 will be a beach scene, these have been started and we will showcase them on our blog once completed.
  • Friday 27 May 2022 27th May 2022 The final week of Term 5 was exciting as the children prepared for our Jubilee party. Despite the rain they enjoyed having parents in school to make party crowns and eat healthy snacks. On Friday, each child took home their own Platinum Jubilee teddy to keep as a memento. Caterpillar class were also pleased to see a skipping medal awarded this week. The challenge has been set for the others to now earn their own medal! In maths, the children looked at tangrams, rotating shapes to create pictures.
  • Friday 20 May 2022 20th May 2022 This week we have continued working very hard. We have visited our school library to change our books, played a variety of subtraction games, built cars, completed art work and improved our coordination and ball skills in PE.
  • Friday 13 May 2022 13th May 2022 Another week flies by and the children continue to work hard. They were very pleased to see the chickens back at school after their extended 'bird flu' lockdown. The children also had a surprise visitor from Year 2. Speedy the tortoise came to visit, which led to a lovely discussion about pets and animals. Caterpillar class also had Rosie our school dog spend some time with Reception to check we are all working very hard! Rosie also joined us for our class photo. It was super to see 100% attendance, well done!
  • Friday 6 May 2022 6th May 2022 The children have been busy using their Read, Write, Inc skills throughout the day and throughout the week. They use their 'Fred fingers' to help pinch out the sounds required to make a word and they are using finger spaces between each word. Some are beginning to use a capital letter to start a sentence and a full stop to end a sentence. It would be lovely to see any writing completed at home, please send it in so we can celebrate it with the class.
  • Friday 29 April 2022 29th April 2022 We started Term 5 with a focus on Art. The children have been colour mixing and looking at the artist Tom Yendell, who paints using his feet and mouth. We finished the week with a visit to Bath and the Victoria Art Gallery, where the staff commented on how well behaved the children were whilst in the gallery. During our time in Bath, we had a walk around the Abbey, linked hands around a 230 year old plane tree and visited Henrietta Park.
  • Friday 8 April 2022 8th April 2022 During the final week of Term 4 the children had a visit from the Easter bunny! The children went looking for their Easter egg design in the hall where they got to say hello to the Easter bunny before returning to class to find a magically delivered egg to take home. They have also been busy making their own Easter card and writing a message inside whilst in maths they have been doubling amounts. Next term after school clubs start for Reception, all the children have been given their first choice. Football club starts on the first day back, so don't forget your PE kit!

She showed the children a range of activities that firefighters deal with and they also did some role play. She was impressed that the children told her that as she had a red lanyard on that they cannot work with her unless a member of staff was present. In other work this week, the children have looked at the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, made fruit kebabs and in maths have been finding ways of making ten.
  • Friday 11 March 2022 11th March 2022 Today Caterpillar Class made some delicious bread. The Little Red Hen should have asked them to help as they worked well together at every stage!
  • Friday 4 March 2022 4th March 2022 What a busy start to term! All the children had a fantastic time on our trip to Caenhill Countryside Centre. The 'hands on' experiences they had with the amazing variety of animals will help so much throughout the term with our new topic of 'All Creatures Great and Small'. Thank you too all the helpers, without you we could not go on these valuable trips. If you haven't requested a meeting for Tuesday or Wednesday, please do so. Those that have, have been emailed a time. You are more than welcome to bring your child along.
  • Friday 11 February 2022 11th February 2022 This week we read the story 'Emma Jane's Aeroplane'. She visited many different landmarks around the world including Big Ben in London, The Eiffel Tower in Paris and Sydney Harbour. She met many different animals on the way! Our History focus was based on some photos of Westbury past sent to us by the local library. Time flew by as the children were fascinated looking at the photos of the train station, school and church with the children looking for clues as to when these photos were taken. Caterpillar Class continue to become more confident when sounding out words using their 'Fred Fingers', with some now progressing to write short sentences. In maths the children have been improving their subitising skills and using this to help them find the total of two amounts. Information for the week: Supply cover is in place on Tuesday as Mrs Clifford will be away. If you are available to help on our trip for either/both dates (Wed 2nd/Fri 4th March) please let me know as soon as possible.
  • Friday 4 February 2022 4th February 2022 Our 'Explorer Welly Walk' this week saw the children walking to Westbury train station. On our travels we glimpsed the White Horse, had a police blue light escort across the road, met the geese on the lake, looked at the town map and even spotted a giraffe! Thank you once again for all the help given, without this support we would not be able to go.
