  • Friday 21 January 2022 21st January 2022 This week in Caterpillar Class we have listened to the story of 'The Naughty Bus'. We went on a hunt for it around the school and found many locations it had been getting up to mischief! On our travels we sketched and mapped out where it had been and thought of ideas it had got up to. In maths we continued to look at how 3, 4 and 5 are made. We played games which has helped us begin to learn off by heart, the parts that make the whole. Our 'Talk Partners' have changed again and we have spent some time discussing how we are different and similar, adding information for the listener.
  • Friday 14 January 2022 RWI, PE and Maths This week in maths we have been looking at the composition of 5. This has been completed in a variety of ways including a bean bag target game. The children even had a go at recording their scores. On Friday we have our PE session. The children found the moving around the hall very challenging when asked to make sure that their opposite arm and leg moved forward at the same time! We had a number of children without PE kits this week. Please send them in as soon as possible. Our RWI sessions continue each day. Many children are now starting to bring home either books or 'ditty sheets'. These books and sheets cover the sounds they have been taught. It is really important that all the children know the 25 single letter 'Set 1' sounds, at speed and be able to write them down. Details of parent workshops will be coming soon which will be led by our RWI lead. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please do ask.
  • Friday 3 December 2021 3rd December 2021 Introducing 'Bertie Warm Sprinkles', our Christmas elf who has come to visit the class. Bertie Warm Sprinkles has been leaving us a new letter each day and seems to have been getting up to a bit of mischief each evening. Bertie even managed to secretly travel to All Saints Church! Perhaps Tyler the dog gave Bertie a lift!
  • Monday 29 November 2021 29th November 2021 The temperature has dropped and the children have enjoyed exploring the ice they have found outside the classroom using full sentences to describe what it feels and looks like. In maths, we have been looking at shapes and describing them and counting the sides of 2d shapes. Caterpillar class have also continued to describe how they have moved around obstacle courses, enjoyed retelling the story of 'The Three Little Pigs' and worked hard in their new Read, Write, Inc groups. Please continue to recap the sounds we have taught since September. We aim to know all the single letter Set 1 sounds by Christmas and regular exposure to these sounds will help the children meet this target.
  • Friday 19 November 2021 19th November 2021 Caterpillar class have been reading and retelling the story of 'The Gruffalo' and beginning to use 'Fred fingers' to help sound out words when writing. They have also spent some time in the sensory garden making homes for some of the tiny creatures they have been finding.

  • Wednesday 10 November 2021 10th November 2021 Today we went on our first bus trip. We visited Drews Pond Wood in Devizes and had a lovely walk exploring the natural world around us. We will continue to look back on this trip throughout the term and use the experience when working back at school. Thank you to all the parent helpers who came with us. Without you, we would not be able to give the children these additional experiences.
  • Friday 5 November 2021 5th November 2021 Today the children have welcomed parents and children into our class as part of the school's Open Day. They had visitors during our Read, Write, Inc and maths sessions in the morning and also in the afternoon, whilst they showed of their ever improving yoga skills as well as rocket making skills in time for firework night.
  • Friday 15 October 2021 15th October 2021 We have had lots of fun this week in Caterpillar class! We spent Monday having good boogie for our sponsored disco. The children loved this and really enjoyed the day! We have also spent this week learning all about repeating patterns in maths. Children have explored pattern through shape, colour and even body percussion. Children have also learnt five new sounds this week 'w','th', 'z', 'ch' and 'qu'. Finally, we have also improved our core strength by practising some yoga following a cosmic kids routine.
  • Friday 8 October 2021 8th October 2021 Some photos of a very busy week that included some yoga, cooking in our mud kitchen area, exploring the environment, lots of writing, number formation and five new sounds! I hope the sound card packs and skipping ropes, given out at parent consultation evening, are being enjoyed at home!
  • Thursday 7 October 2021 Read, Write, Inc A quick information guide for parents on how to say the 'Set 1' sounds. By the end of Term 1 we will have taught these 31 'Set 1' sounds which we will repeat during Term 2.
  • Friday 1 October 2021 1st October 2021 Along with learning five more sounds in Read, Write, Inc the children have been busy matching and sorting in maths, writing numbers, improving their balancing skills, listened to a variety of stories and have also been on a conker hunt. • Friday 24 September 2021 24th September 2021 This week our two new elected School Council members attended the opening of the new Sensory Garden. They represented the class and witnessed the Mayor of Westbury cutting the ribbon. Please do go and have a look at this new area. We will be using it a great deal for a variety of activities over the coming months. Lewis was on the 'bench' for our celebration assembly, showing off his superhero he had made, adding a cape with his name on it. The rest of the class have been spending some time drawing and talking about some of their favourite things. If you haven't yet emailed me regarding parents' evening please do so. I can then finalise appointment times. It would be wonderful to share how well all the children have settled. I also have some free goodies to give out!
  • Friday 17 September 2021 17th September 2021 Another busy week learning five new sounds, continuing to make new friends, attending our first assemblies with the whole school and meeting the chickens! As part of our Circus Day we have been spinning plates, juggling and walking the tightrope!
  • Friday 10 September 2021 10th September 2021 We have had a fantastic first week at school. All the children have settled into our routines with little fuss. It has been a pleasure to meet so many kind and caring children who are already full of beaming smiles. Caterpillar Class have already started Read, Write, Inc, learning the sounds 'm', 'a' and 's'. They have met 'Fred the Frog', completed a tour around the school, sang songs, 'climbed' the tree house, had lunch in the hall, played games, made new friends, become artists, used our new mud kitchen, sold shapes in the shape shop, dressed up and much, much more!
