Friday 27th January 2023

This week the children have been excited to learn how Lunar New Year is celebrated. We watched programmes and read non-fiction books about the celebration. In the role-play area the children enjoyed dressing up and pretending to celebrate Lunar New Year. The children created dancing dragons, lanterns and red animals. As part of investigating Lunar New Year, the children learnt about ‘The Great Race’ where the animals raced to have the year named after them. This year is the year of the Rabbit.

The children have been working hard on their blending skills in our Read Write Inc sessions. If you would like to support your child’s reading development then please check out the RWI blog:

In our maths sessions this week we have looked at capacity and mass. The children enjoyed playing in the water tray to investigate how much a container can hold. The children used the balance scales to find out which object is heavier or lighter. At the end of the week the children made playdough by filling cups and tablespoons to the required measurements. In the afternoon the playdough table was the busiest place in the classroom.
