Sporty Scientists!

Wow – where has this term gone!  We have certainly packed lots in and the children have been very busy with their learning.  We have had a wonderful week in Beetles Class – I’m sure you have already heard about some of the amazing things we have been doing.  We started the week with a visit to Matravers School to take part in the ABC Challenge.  The children were amazing – they listened to the young leaders’ instructions and took part in all activities, giving their best to every challenge.  It was great to see the teamwork and encouragement they showed each other. A big thank you to our parent helpers who joined us, your time and support was very much appreciated.

We finished our Science topic this week but not before we became hands on scientists classifying animals by investigating animal poo (coloured play-dough) in a very interesting experiment to establish which animal it came from – carnivore, herbivore or omnivore!  We then looked at food chains and acted out the process with the children being producers, consumers and predators.

In Maths we continued with our fraction topic, using resources and bar models to find equivalent fractions.  A great ‘light bulb’ moment when the ½ and 2/4 fractions matched and the children proved they were equivalent.

This week we shared ‘The squirrels who squabbled.’ by Rachel Bright.  Here’s the link so you can share it at home too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q3GFXricMoby Please continue to read with your child each day and further support to help your child with their reading can be found on the RWI blog.  If you are not sure of your child’s RWI group please just ask one of the Beetles Class team or email me at class3@westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk

May we take this opportunity to say a very big thank you for all your continued support, and to wish you all a very Happy Easter – enjoy the holidays and we will see you all on Monday 17th April.

Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Thursday.

With very best wishes,

Mrs Jeffery, Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball.
