Honeybee Class Friday 28th November 2025
This week, Honeybee Class was immersed in a magical winter wonderland through a sensory story based on The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s First Winter by Eric Carle. The children explored soft snow, cold ice, tasted fresh blueberries, smelled the scent of Christmas trees, and even felt the winter wind blow! They showed fantastic listening skills and wonderful enthusiasm as they joined in with the story.
Following the story, the children used those same brilliant listening skills to follow instructions and create a range of beautiful artwork inspired by winter. They made snowy trees, tactile snowmen, and wintery playdough creations. Their artwork was truly stunning—there are certainly some budding artists in Honeybee Class!
In maths this week, we have been learning how to find a new total when adding or taking one away from a number. The children enjoyed working this out practically through stories and rhymes such as Five Little Ducks and Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer, as well as using small world people to get on and off a bus. We are so proud of how carefully they counted and how well they began to understand the idea of “one more” and “one less.”
Our topic learning focused on developing listening skills and exploring percussion instruments. The children practised making loud and quiet sounds, keeping a steady beat, and stopping when the music stopped. We certainly have lots of musical children in Honeybee Class, and they loved experimenting with a variety of instruments.
We also continued our learning about the seasons and looked closely at the signs of winter. The children learnt that winter is the coldest season, that we need to wear warm clothing, and how animals keep warm during the colder months. We talked about how winter begins in December and explored some celebrations that happen during this season, including Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year and Valentine’s Day.
Well done, Honeybee Class—you have worked so hard and learnt so much this week!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
