Friday 12th December
What a wonderfully busy and festive week we’ve had in class, with the children working hard rehearsing the Christmas play, learning a poem for our church service, and getting fully into the Christmas spirit.
In Drawing Club, we enjoyed the story Stick Man. The children made their own stick men using playdough, wrapped wool around lolly sticks, created Santa puppets, used hole punches to decorate Christmas trees, made a woodland collage and even recreated Stick Man poses using lolly sticks. We also drew pictures of Stick Man and some of the adventures he goes on, before thinking about what job he might enjoy and what he might like for Christmas.
Our star words this week have been:
⭐ lonely
⭐ escape
⭐ captured
⭐ beware
⭐ grateful
⭐ safe
In maths, some children have been exploring 2D shapes, focusing on squares and rectangles. They used the stem sentences: “I know this is a square because it has 4 sides the same length” and “I know this is a rectangle because it has 2 short sides and 2 long sides.” The rest of the class have been revising their number bonds and using their number knowledge in problem-solving and reasoning activities.
In DT, the children sewed their Christmas stockings using a running stitch. This was a tricky challenge for some, but they showed fantastic resilience and didn’t give up. We are very excited to decorate them soon.
On Thursday, we visited the church for our Christmas service. It was lovely to sing the songs we have been learning and to share our poems with our grown-ups. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
As we head into the final stretch before Christmas, we are so proud of how hard the children are working and how much joy and enthusiasm they bring to everything they do. Well done Bumblebees!
