Term 2, Week One: Millipedes 04.10.22
Term Two; Week One
This has been our first week back of the new term. Hopefully everyone has had a great break and it’s so nice to be back in the classroom with the children, both me and Mrs. Rockey have missed them!
This week has been dominated with Halloween. The children have made some amazing pumpkins and ghosts and, have had hands on experience with real pumpkins on Thursday! We have loved seeing your shared pictures of Halloween preparation and costumes on Tapestry and the children have loved talking about these pictures with the rest of the class in carpet time.
The book this week and next is The Gruffalo! This is such a great book and we really encourage having a good read of this at home. Alternately here is a link to the amazing BBC animation of the story - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00pk64x/the-gruffalo
Next Thursday we are going to Moore’s Valley to experience a Gruffalo trail, so the children having a good understanding of the story will make the children appreciate and enjoy the trip even more :)
This week we have also been exploring Fireworks night in preparation for the weekend’s celebrations. We have looked at both the colours and the sounds of fireworks this week and the children are excited to see some real ones this Saturday.
Read Write Inc.
In Read Write Inc we have transitioned into smaller focused groups mixing children between the three reception classes. It has been great this week to begin teaching children from other classes and carrying on our phonics learning journey together. These smaller groups are also an amazing environment for all children to get that bit more personalised attention.

For parents wanting to do some sound practice at home the below video is really helpful and I highly recommend :)

Next week!
Next week we have a school trip to Moore’s Valley to look forward to. This will be an all-day trip on Thursday the 10th of November. The children should wear home cloths and the school is providing a packed lunch for each child. However, if you’d like to send your child with a packed lunch that is absolutely fine!

Millipedes will potentially have a supply teacher on Tuesday, if not I will be teaching Tuesday as Mrs Rockey is away.
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Horniman
