  • Wednesday 30 November 2022 Balance skills This term we have been practising our balancing skills. We have been supporting one another to walk carefully along a line forwards and backwards. We have walked with high knees and with something balanced on our heads. We found this a bit tricky to start with but with a little help from our friends all succeeded. We put our skills to the test and played a train game. It was most fun when Mrs Channon was the tunnel and we had to go through her legs.
  • Wednesday 23 November 2022 Working hard in Butterflies The children have been working really hard this week across the curriculum. They have been trying really hard with their Maths learning to compare calculations after first working them out. We had to remember what the addition and subtraction symbol meant to make sure our answers were right first but used tens frames to help us with that.
  • Friday 18 November 2022 Friday 18th November This week we finished our exciting learning on the amazing engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Butterfly class have really enjoyed learning about his achievements and how his designs have changed and improved the way we travel today. They finished the topic showing off their amazing knowledge by writing as much as they could remember about Brunel and his accomplishments. They tried really hard to use full stops, capital letters and Fred fingers to help them spell unfamiliar words. Well done Butterfly class. You are superstars!
  • Friday 11 November 2022 Friday 11th November Butterfly Class were a credit to Westbury Infant School on our trip to SS Great Britain on Thursday and should be very proud of themselves. We had a super time seeing first hand some of the exciting things that we have learnt about the SS Great Britain so far and Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We were able to go underneath the ship and see the iron hull and the screw propeller, both of which made ships travel further and faster than ever before. When we were on the top deck we saw the original anchor and found out that when they sailed they needed to carry 1000 animals for food, including pigs, cows a and chickens! It must have been very noisy and very smelly on board! Down below the deck we sat at the first class dining table, saw the sleeping areas, cooking preparation and learnt about how they had doctors on board too. We saw rats crawling (Only pretend) and heard lots of sounds that you would have heard aboard the ship. We only had a short time to look but it would definitely be worth an

  • Friday 14 October 2022 Friday 14th October This week Butterfly Class have completed their learning about Augusta Savage and created some super sculptures of themselves inspired by her work. They applied lots of different techniques to their busts such as rolling, pinching, kneading and shaping to create each part of their sculpture until it was complete. First they needed to manipulate the clay to make the shoulders. Next they rolled some clay to make the neck and attached it carefully by smoothing the joint to ensure it stayed together. Finally they used a variety of techniques to create their head before carefully attaching it to the next. The finished busts look amazing. Well done Butterfly Class.

  • Friday 30 September 2022 Discothon The children started this week in a very bright way coming to school wearing their favourite party clothes. Please don't forget to send in your sponsor ship money, every little helps!
  • Friday 23 September 2022 Friday 23rd September This week in Maths we have been learning to count back and use the language of one less. The children have been working really hard to practically show one less using numicon, unifix or number tracks and saying out loud one less than 6 is 5, one less than 10 is 9 and 7 is one less than 8. They then started to represent one less pictorially and finally using numerals.
  • Friday 16 September 2022 Friday 16th September We have had a lot of fun this week continuing to learn more about the way we can group animals according to what they eat. We know that some animal only eat plants, some only eat meat but others eat both. We learnt the correct words for this; herbivores, carnivores and omnivores but we are looking more at identifying what each animal eats and sorting them accordingly rather than using this vocabulary. After learning about the key features of different animals the children had a go at writing their own riddle to see if we could guess their chosen animal.
  • Friday 9 September 2022 Welcome Back!! Welcome back everyone. It has been so lovely to get to know all the children in our class this week. They are all settling really well and have got into the new routines well. We have also been fortunate enough this week to have a live teams call with a Zoo Keeper that works alongside London Zoo. She spoke to us all about different animals and their similarities and differences. She then spoke about the different criteria to sort the animals and what they were called based on what they ate. This all linked really well with our Knowledge organisers we sent home in the homework books and the children have been really engaged with their learning.

The girls made lavender bags and polished brass whilst the boys tended to the garden, scared away birds and made bee's wax candles.
