  • Friday 2 December 2022 Friday 2nd December 2022 This week we have had fun week in Dragonflies class with the arrival of a Christmas Tree and a Kindness elf. The children have named the elf Tinsel Twinkle. On Friday the children decided to make cards to thank people who help us around the school. We look forward to finding more letters from our class elf which encourage us to do kind things. Lots of the children have enjoyed talking about the elves that they have at home. Please upload some photographs on Tapestry so we can share them as a class.
  • Friday 25 November 2022 Friday 25th November 2022 This week the children in Dragonflies class have turned into bakers and enjoyed whipping up some cupcakes as part of their maths learning. Throughout the week, the children have been investigating size, mass and capacity so the perfect way to finish the week was to follow a recipe where all the ingredients had to equal the weight of the egg. As the ingredients were added to the scales the children used words such as heavy, light, heavier, lighter and balanced to describe the position of the scales. The children had such a good time baking and were delighted when they got to taste the finished cakes.
  • Friday 18 November 2022 Friday 18th November 2022 This week Dragonfly class turned into storytellers and had great fun retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It was lots of fun to watch the children perform the story and use a range of voices. In our music sessions the children have been practising using the Glockenspiels and investigating the sounds they make.
  • Friday 11 November 2022 Friday 11th November This week we had an amazing start to our topic ‘If you go down to the woods today’. We went on a visit to Moors Valley and the children loved finding all the characters from the Gruffalo. The children had the opportunity to enjoy the natural climbing challenges set about a play trail and discover some of the features of a woodland. Pine cones seemed to be the treasure of the day and children enjoyed collecting these. It was a lovely Autumn Day to go exploring in the woodlands – Take a look at some of our photos from the day.
  • Friday 4 November 2022 Friday 4th November 2022 The children arrived back at school excited to talk about their holidays. It was lovely to see everyone looking fresh and ready to start a new term of learning. This week we had a mystery to solve on Monday afternoon, we had a visitor to the class and there were lots of clues such as tusks and purple prickles…can you guess who might have paid a visit That’s right it was the Gruffalo…luckily, he had disappeared before the children arrived back from lunch. The children have enjoyed learning about the story of the Gruffalo and were fantastic at retelling the story in the sensory garden.
  • Wednesday 19 October 2022 Wednesday 19th October Wow what a term! I can’t believe we are finishing for half term already. The children have had an amazing first half term in school. We are very proud of all they have achieved this half term and hope that they enjoy the half term break.

  • Friday 7 October 2022 Friday 7th October Dragonflies have had an amazing week of learning and we went on our very first school trip. The week started with the children learning about their five senses. We played games such as what’s that sound, Kim’s game, what’s that smell, how does it taste and what can you feel The children had great fun ending the week with a visit to our sensory garden the children thought about what they could hear, see, smell and feel. Some of the children were fortunate enough to pick some pears from the pear tree so could also investigate their sense of taste.
  • Friday 30 September 2022 Friday 30th September On Monday the children had lots of fun taking part in the Discothon. There were lots of opportunities to dance and be active which the children loved. Thank you for all the donations.
  • Friday 23 September 2022 Friday 23rd September We’ve had another amazing week in Dragonflies! The children have had a wonderful time showing off their creative skills by creating family pictures and creating self-portraits using different media. The children have loved talking to each other about their families and enjoyed listening to the story, ‘All kinds of Families’. Take a look at our fantastic family pictures below:
  • Friday 16 September 2022 Friday 16th September We have had a fun filled week in Dragonfly class this week. We have started our RWI sessions where the children learn a sound a day.   • Friday 9 September 2022 Friday 9th September 2022 Wow what an amazing week getting to know the children. It was lovely to see all of the children at home and then welcome them into school. We’ve had a great start to school and the children have enjoyed exploring their classroom and the school environment.
  • Friday 15 July 2022 Friday 15th July 2022 This week we have had some glorious sunshine and Dragonflies have enjoyed lots of water play in the outside area. They were very excited to end the week with a water fight. It was such a fun afternoon!
  • Friday 8 July 2022 Friday 8th July 2022 Dragonflies have had a very busy week learning all about the story, ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. The children enjoyed listening to the story and learning all about the role of a Lighthouse Keeper. In the story some seagulls pinch Mr Grinling’s lunch every day so the children set about making a picnic basket full of food for him. As part of a creative challenge the children had the opportunity to make a lighthouse and I think you’ll agree they turned out to be amazing!
  • Friday 1 July 2022 Friday 1st July 2022 This week we continued the story of ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. We watched some factual videos and read some non-fiction books to help us learn about different sea creatures. We did learn some fascinating facts that the children will use to create a fact file.
  • Friday 24 June 2022 Friday 24th June 2022 This week began with the children listening to the story ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. The children enjoyed identifying the rhyming words in the text and also talking about the different creatures that live in the sea. During continuous provision the children have had the opportunity to create different sea creatures and learn more about the creatures that live beneath the sea. As part of our art work over the last few weeks the children have been creating seaside pictures and this week they finished their project with amazing results.
  • Friday 17 June 2022 Friday 17th June 2022 Wow! We’ve had an amazing and very busy week in Dragonfly class.
  • Friday 10 June 2022 Friday 10th June This week we started our new topic ‘At the Seaside’. The children have enjoyed using the large sandpit in the outside area that was recently filled with lots more sand so it feels like the children are at the beach. We set up an ice cream stall in the sand tray and the children have enjoyed pretending to sell ice creams to each other. In the small world area we set up a beach scene so that the children could tell stories about going to the beach.
  • Saturday 28 May 2022 Jubilee Song 27.5.22 Here are Dragonfly Class singing the Jubilee song for Queen Elizabeth!
  • Friday 27 May 2022 Friday 27th May 2022 We have had an amazing week of learning linked to the Queen’s Jubilee. The children have enjoyed listening to ‘Royal’ themed stories such as the ‘Queen’s Knickers’, ‘The Queen’s Handbag’ and ‘Little Elizabeth’. This has inspired the children to create new handbags for the queen, create a new jubilee crown and design a new castle for the queen to live in.
  • Friday 20 May 2022 Friday 20th May 2022 This week the Dragonflies listened to the story, 'My Five Senses' and had the opportunity to investigate each of the senses. On Monday the children went on a senses walk with Rosie our school dog. They had fun exploring the senses garden and stayed quiet so they could listen to all the different sounds on our school grounds.
  • Friday 13 May 2022 Friday 13th May 2022 This week the children have loved learning about the story, ‘Supertato’. The children are beginning to retell parts of the text and have enjoyed using the characters in the small world area to tell different versions of the story. The story inspired the children to write as if they were the characters. The children chose a character and then thought about what they might say and then wrote it down in a speech bubble. On Monday, the children had the opportunity to create their very own supertato using a range of vegetables and materials from the creative area.

  • Friday 29 April 2022 Friday 29th April 2022 Wow what a very busy first week! We started the week by reading the story ‘Katie’s Pictures’. In the story, Katie visits an art gallery with her grandma. Whilst the grandma sleeps, Katie looks around the gallery and discovers she can enter the pictures. This inspired the children to create their very own pieces of art with a world they would like to visit.
  • Friday 8 April 2022 Friday 8th April 2022 This week, Dragonflies have had lots of fun completing art challenges. The children enjoyed experimenting with collage and weaving. As part of the Easter celebrations the children made cards and then bunny head bands ready for the Easter Egg Hunt.
  • Friday 1 April 2022 Friday 1st April 2022 This week we continued with our Story Dear Zoo. The children enjoyed designing and making their very own zoo for our toy animals. They used the large loose parts to create enclosures and thought carefully about what each animal might need and who they could live next to. The children created posters and signs for their zoo. It was great to see the teamwork involved in creating the zoo and all of the amazing writing.
  • Friday 25 March 2022 Friday 25th March 2022 This week the children had a very special delivery from the zoo. The children had to predict what would be in each package and then check if they had guessed the correct animal. The children enjoyed retelling the story of Dear Zoo and using the props in their play. A challenge to create an animal was set and the children embraced this by using a variety of materials such as the k-nex, wooden blocks and the tip tap shapes.
  • Friday 18 March 2022 Friday 18th March Dragonflies have loved learning all about the very hungry caterpillar this week. We started by listening to the story and have practiced retelling it using story stones and props. Some children attempted to write a shopping list for what the hungry caterpillar might want to eat and then at the end of the week we had fun making our very own caterpillar fruit skewers.
  • Friday 11 March 2022 Friday 11th March 2022 Wow another week has flown by as we looked at the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’. The children are learning to retell this story by heart and have enjoyed making puppets to aid their story telling. The children had the opportunity to make bread this week just like the Little Red Hen. The children enjoyed eating their warm bread rolls.
  • Friday 4 March 2022 Friday 4th March Dragonflies have had an amazing week packed full of experiences. It all started on Tuesday when the children listened to the story ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’. Inspired by Mr Wolf the children helped to make their very own pancakes and were very helpful unlike Mr Wolf’s friends. The children enjoyed eating their pancakes served with sugar and a squeeze of lemon.
